Messe Muenchen has a long tradition of working closely with the industry to make trade fairs as relevant and beneficial as possible for all stakeholders involved. Our Advisory Board members are representatives of the various sectors of industry covered at bauma CONEXPO AFRICA. Together with their valuable input regarding industry developments, knowledge and expertise, we aim to further establish the trade fair as the most relevant marketplace and business exchange platform for the construction, mining, agriculture and forestry sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Advisory Board Members

Dr Andrew McEwan
Dr Andrew McEwan

Dr Andrew McEwan is a global forest engineering expert. Based in South Africa, his expertise focusses on the forest machinery used in timber harvesting, forest roads construction and maintenance, and timber transport. He provides guidance to companies and contractors regarding system and machine selection. His PhD research focussed on the new technologies that will be adopted in the forestry machines of the future. He provides forest engineering consulting and training services to forestry.

He now has 25 years’ experience in the forestry industry, having commenced his career as a forestry manager for Mondi in South Africa. Besides the South African consulting activities, he is active in various African countries and SE Asia. Additional activities take place on an ad hoc basis in Australia, New Zealand and South America.

McEwan carries out strategic forestry related studies for the South African forestry industry. He has also carried out many consultancy projects for clients in various African countries, as well as for the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations. He is in high demand for in depth investment studies due to having an intimate knowledge of the industry and the success factors required. He managed the international operations of CMO, a leader in forestry software, consulting and training.

He is a Past-President and current proud member of the Southern African Institute of Forestry and associate researcher of the Nelson Mandela University.

Calvin Fennell
Calvin Fennell

As a self-motivated individual being sales and service driven with a strategic focus on growth, development and process improvement within the working environment; providing exceptional customer satisfaction and loyalty is non-negotiable in my relationships; with the end goal of ensuring the right equipment for the right application at the right cost of production.

As a qualified Civil Engineer Technician and a career in the construction and mining industry spanning 35 years I have experience as a contractor, dealer, distributor and OEM giving me a unique insight into the entire equipment supply chain in the civil and construction industry from selling and supporting of the equipment as a dealer, distributor and OEM to the application and operation of the equipment as a contractor and miner in both surface and underground applications.

Having being based and worked in South Africa, Botswana and Tanzania, and over the past 35 years, engaging with a customer and dealer network in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique throughout these territories I also have insight into the requirements and challenges facing both customers and service providers to the industry within these territories and Southern Africa as a whole.

I am also Chairman of CONMESA.

Dennis Vietze
Dennis Vietze

The construction industry is his passion. Dennis Vietze, Managing Director for Wacker Neuson South Africa, an affiliate of a leading global manufacturer of high quality light and compact construction equipment.

Vietze joined the company in September 2000 and held various positions within the sales organization before becoming Director of Market Development in April 2013 at the company’s production facility in Munich, Germany. With 20 years’ experience he takes a vision and makes it reality through sound strategy development. Through change and progress, Wacker Neuson, South Africa has partnered with thirteen dealers across Sub-Saharan Africa.

His goal is to drive measurable results through thought leadership and develop the market by increasing the light and compact equipment footprint across Sub-Saharan Africa. Vietze has extensive experience in sales and management and is an inspirational leader with a wealth of knowledge on construction machinery and applications.

Vietze holds a degree in Bachelor of Arts from the Westsaechsische Hochschule Zwickau, Germany and a bachelor degree in Business Administration from Verwaltungs- und Wirtschaftsakademie Munich, Germany. When he is not living out his passion in the construction industry, you can find him travelling, at the gym or on the golf course.

Dirk Venter
Dirk Venter

Dirk Venter started his career initially as an auto electrician at CAT. From there he went to Bell Equipment as National Product Support. After Bell he started Manitou SA with the late Koos Pretorius in a 90m2 building! Dirk introduced the first telescopic machines into the mining industry, which was very successful. He then joined Bobcat to introduce their new range. After Bobcat Dirk expanded into Terex SA, big mining equipment and was successful but was sold as Bycyrus to CAT. He joined JCB as the Materials Handling Manager SA, introducing their new rough terrain range. Dirk finally joined XCMG SA as the National Sales Manager, with a large salesforce working the entire SA introducing and selling the XCMG range to predominantly the mining and construction industries.

Fred Vieira
Fred Vieira

Fred Vieira represents the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, who for over 125 years has served the off-road equipment manufacturing industry. As a member of AEM’s international team, Mr. Vieira has served under both the Agriculture and Construction sectors in roles that range from global business development, Latin America market information and trade show management. Mr. Vieira currently leads AEM’s trade shows international activities with ongoing projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Dr. Jim Rankin
Dr. Jim Rankin

Dr. Jim Rankin founded AGFACTS in 1985 after spending eleven years as a Soil Physicist in the then Rhodesia doing research into agricultural tillage practices and crop yield and then eight years at the largest South African agricultural machinery company, culminating as Group Marketing Manager.

In its initial years AGFACTS concentrated on the agricultural machinery industry, providing a wide range of business information to this industry. In subsequent years the company’s scope of activities expanded to include the construction and mining equipment industry in southern Africa and the Middle East, the South African fertilizer industry, the southern African diesel and gas engine industry and various other allied industries.

Through his close liaison with these industries, he has founded various Industry Associations and been involved in their administration since their inception. These Associations are:

  • South African Agricultural Machinery Association (SAAMA),
  • Construction and Mining Equipment Suppliers’ Association (CONMESA),
  • Diesel and Gas Engine Association of Southern Africa (DAGEASA),
  • South African Haulage Tractor Transport Association (SAHTTA), and
  • Forklift Truck Association of South Africa (FORLISA).

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Soil Science and Chemistry and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Agriculture from the then University of Natal and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Cape Town.

He has served on the previous two local bauma Advisory Boards and has attended the two previous bauma Expositions in South Africa and two in Munich, Germany, in addition to CONEXPO in Las Vegas, United States of America. At these Expositions he was invited to make presentations on the South African construction and mining equipment industries.

Kelikile Mteto
Kelikile Mteto

Kelikile Mteto, “Kile” as she is affectionately known, was born in Soweto and she is a proud mother of two daughters. She holds a qualification in Professional Health Care and HR Management.

She is the current National President of South African Women in Construction and Built Environment (SAWIC and BE); Treasurer General and Chairperson of the Finance Committee of the Black Business Council in Build Environment (BBCBE); Chairperson: National Department of Human Settlements Women Advisory Council and Deputy Chairperson of the BEPEC. She serves as Non-Director on all the above Boards and Councils and a few others including the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA).

She has represented the Black Business Council at the 2016 Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Women Empowerment Forum as the representative of South Africa in Indonesia, Jakarta.

Kile is a founder & CEO of Ntando-Thando Holdings (Pty) Ltd, a group of companies trading in the Build Environment, ICT and Manufacturing sectors.

She has been invited to participate in the reviewal of legislation and policies such as the BBBEE Code, Commission for Gender Equality Acts including the Black Industrialist Policy and the Transformation Policy for SANRAL, by the respective Ministers.

Kile is passionate about the empowerment of the previously disadvantaged groups, particularly Women’s involvement in the country’s economy mainly in the construction sector. She has actively engaged all levels of Government and Private sector for a meaningful opportunities & involvement of Women and Youth in the infrastructure delivery projects.

Kile also played a key role in the rollout of a Women Contractor Development Program by the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements in partnership with SAWIC Gauteng Primary Co-Operative LTD which has empowered more than 150 Women and Youth Owned Entities and offered them skills & experience to participate on live projects and improve their grading with CIDB Register of Contractors.

She is a formidable leader and speaker at conferences where the topic of Women Empowerment is being discussed. She spends her time free of charge serving towards the development of the Construction Sector.

Lawrence Peters
Lawrence Peters

Lawrence Peters joined ELB Equipment in March 1996 and has served on CONMESA since January 2001. He has been a member of the CONMESA Executive Board since January 2011 and has served two terms as Chairman (2013/2014 and 2017/2018). Lawrence has been a member of two previous bauma Advisory Boards, notably for the first bauma event in 2013.

Quintin Booysen
Quintin Booysen

Quintin Booysen holds degrees in MBA, PDBA, B.Sc. Building Science and has over 22 years of professional work experience in industrial equipment including the disciplines of technical support, strategic marketing and sales to over 40 countries with a specialist focus on developing countries including Sub-Saharan Africa. He currently heads sales and marketing for the PMSA Group of Com-panies, who are the leading and largest manufacturer and supplier in Africa for a full range of Concrete Industrial Equipment. Quintin has been involved with bauma CONEXPO AFRICA since its inception in 2013 and has extensive working knowledge of all the large industrial trade shows in the field of industrial concrete equipment.

Ruqshana Hassan
Ruqshana Hassan

Ruqshana is an Economist and has worked across the Private Sector and the Public Service, covering a diverse area from policy to mining to investments. She has held various roles in the mining industry, including Acting Chief Economist at the Minerals Council of South Africa. Ruqshana currently does consulting work in the mining sector and is a Committee Member at Women in Mining South Africa (WIMSA). She is also a member of International Women in Mining (IWIM).
